EgNog is a recently launched Indian women’s wear label built around a bold sustainability
mission. Launched by young designers, the brand set out to make fashion that feels “good
as it looks” – using unexpected plant-based fibres instead of conventional textiles. From day
one, EgNog has stressed that eco-fashion doesn’t have to be dull or tokenistic. In their own
words: “Sustainable Fashion can be more than the regular Browns & Greys. We use fabrics
made from plant cellulose fibre of plants like Orange Peel, Rose, Soya, Corn and Banana…
Sustainability with EgNog is bright, colourful & fun.”. This tagline sums up EgNog vision: to
transform fruit and plant waste into stylish garments, thereby giving new life to materials
that would otherwise be thrown away.
In practice, EgNog sources cellulose from food-industry byproducts (like orange peels and
banana stems) and turns them into wearable fabrics. This approach is inspired by global
pioneers (such as Orange Fibre) but tailored to Indian production. The founders have
emphasized authentic sustainability from the start – every detail (even buttons are made of
natural coconut shell) is chosen for minimal impact. EgNog promotes transparency: their
website proudly lists the unusual fibres used (orange, banana, corn, rose, soya). As a result,
the brand positions itself as “not your average eco-brand” in India – promising eco-conscious
garments that are trendy, high-quality and genuinely green, rather than vague
greenwashing.
