Some stories don’t just come from imagination — they rise from somewhere deeper. From quiet corners of the heart, from emotions that don’t always have names, from questions we’ve carried for years. The Mark That Led Me to You is one such story. And for me, it’s more than just a debut novel — it’s a part of my soul translated into words.
I’m Shephali Hazra, an English Honours graduate and an author who believes in the transformative power of storytelling. I’ve always loved the written word, but this book marks a significant turning point in my life — both personally and professionally. With immense gratitude, I share that my debut work recently earned me the Rabindra Ratna Puraskar, a recognition that has filled me with pride and purpose.
The Genesis of a Spiritual Fiction Novel
The journey of writing The Mark That Led Me to You didn’t begin with a plot — it began with a feeling. A longing, a sense of something unspoken, something waiting to be explored. It was a deeply spiritual and mysterious calling, and I followed it. The novel blends two powerful elements — spirituality and mystery, but not in the typical dramatic or supernatural way. Rather, it reflects the quiet, human experiences we all share: longing, connection, healing, and the search for meaning.
This book is not just a story — it’s an experience. I wanted readers to feel seen, to pause and reflect, to find comfort in silence and beauty in vulnerability. Through every sentence, my goal was to create not just a narrative but a mirror — one that lets readers discover a piece of themselves within the pages.
The Journey and the Struggles Behind the Pages
As much as writing is a joy, it is also a journey filled with obstacles and self-doubt. There were countless moments when I paused midway, unsure if anyone would resonate with the themes I was exploring — emotions people often shy away from discussing. I questioned whether I was right to write about the things people hesitate to acknowledge. But I’ve come to realize: the stories that scare us the most are often the ones that need to be told.
Every chapter I wrote was not just a conversation with my characters, but with myself. The biggest struggle was staying authentic — staying true to the emotional and spiritual undercurrents that run through the book. But the overwhelming love and support from my readers has validated that honesty.
A Story That Leaves a Mark
The Mark That Led Me to You revolves around seekers — characters looking not for grand answers but for quiet truths. The kind of truths that live in passing glances, in subtle marks left on our souls by people we meet, sometimes only briefly. The story highlights how even a single connection or a single moment can shift our entire perspective.
What makes this book special to me — and hopefully to readers — is how it walks the line between fiction and philosophy, between reality and reverie. It touches upon the Universal Law, and how life often leads us exactly where we need to be, even when the path seems unclear.
Motivation and What’s Next
My inspiration doesn’t come from external figures — I am my own motivation. The desire to express, to connect, to heal — these are what fuel me. And I’m just getting started. I plan to keep writing, keep evolving, and continue creating stories that carry emotion, depth, and meaning.
Outside of writing, I find peace in singing — another way to express what can’t always be
said aloud. But storytelling will always be my first love, my most honest voice.
To My Readers and Supporters
To every reader who has picked up my book, shared kind words, or simply believed in the power of literature — thank you. Your encouragement is a reminder that heartfelt stories still matter. And for those yet to explore this journey, I invite you to step into a world where mystery meets meaning, and every page is a reminder of the marks we leave on each other’s lives.
