Kochi Advisory Firm Ties Up With Gurugram Interior Major to Fix a Recurring Gold Loan Branch Roll-Out Bottleneck

BOB Designs & Projects, already a fit-out vendor to Muthoot and other Gold Loan NBFC’s, is now formally empanelled under Mannil Exim’s branch expansion practice

A long-standing sourcing problem for Gold Loan NBFCs expanding into new states, finding an interior fit-out vendor that understands vault specifications, cash-handling layout and branch security requirements without charging a premium to learn on the job, has a new answer out of Kochi.

Mannil Exim, an NBFC and Gold Loan consulting firm operating out of the Cochin Special Economic Zone, has formally empanelled BOB Designs & Projects, a Gurugram-headquartered interior design and civil works firm, under its Branch Expansion service line. BOB Designs already counts Muthoot ,NTC etc among its clients, delivering branch interiors, strong rooms, workstations and furnishing, and operates on a pan-India footprint.

The cost problem hiding inside a generic fit-out contract

For NBFCs, the tie-up is aimed squarely at a cost and coordination problem that tends to surface only after a branch rollout is underway. Generalist interior contractors unfamiliar with Gold Loan-specific requirements typically take longer to scope the job correctly, quote conservatively to cover their own uncertainty, and require additional oversight from the NBFC’s own operations team to catch specification gaps before they become compliance issues, an overhead cost that rarely shows up as a line item but consistently shows up as a delay. Vault construction, in particular, has narrow tolerances that a first-time Gold Loan fit-out vendor typically discovers only through trial and error on the client’s build. A vendor with existing Gold Loan branch experience removes most of that learning curve before it becomes the NBFC’s problem.

A relationship two decades in the making

The tie-up has a personal history behind it that predates either firm’s current form. Mannil Exim’s leadership worked alongside BOB Designs’ Managing Director, Boby K Joseph, during an earlier phase of his career, when Muthoot’s North East and West India branch network numbered fewer than 150 branches. By the time that expansion phase concluded, the network had grown past 1,800 branches, with Joseph moving from a young engineer on that project to his current role heading BOB Designs & Projects, and the firm building the pan-India client base it now brings to this empanelment.

“The tie-up closes a long-standing gap for NBFC clients: a fit-out vendor that understands Gold Loan branch specifications, works at nominal cost, and can execute anywhere in the country,” a Mannil Exim spokesperson said of the arrangement.

Part of a wider expansion push

The empanelment is one of three external alliances Mannil Exim has formalised this year alongside its broader consolidation of advisory practices for Gold Loan NBFCs, spanning product design, branch expansion, recruitment, governance, audit and digital marketing. For NBFC clients already working with Mannil Exim’s Branch Expansion practice on location and catchment analysis, the BOB Designs empanelment removes what has typically been the final, and most execution-heavy, step between a rollout plan on paper and a functioning branch.
