Beyond Awareness: Why Namratha Vijaykumar Wants Mental Wellness to Become Part of Everyday Healthcare

Mental health conversations have become increasingly visible in India.

People are more willing to talk about stress, anxiety, burnout and emotional wellbeing than they were a decade ago.

But for Namratha Vijaykumar, awareness is only the beginning.

The Leadership Psychologist, entrepreneur and founder of Minhance Wellness believes the next challenge is to make mental wellness something people can actually integrate into everyday life.

Her long-term vision is ambitious: to help make mental wellness part of the basic fabric of everyday healthcare.

From crisis intervention to everyday wellbeing

Much of the public conversation around mental health begins when something has already gone wrong.

Someone is overwhelmed.

A relationship has broken down.

Work has become unsustainable.

Anxiety has begun affecting everyday functioning.

Burnout has reached a point where normal routines become difficult.

Namratha believes society needs to develop a stronger culture of psychological prevention and everyday wellbeing.

That does not mean medicalising ordinary emotions or suggesting that every difficult experience requires professional intervention.

Instead, it means helping people recognise their psychological state earlier and giving them practical tools to respond.

“People don’t always need more information. Sometimes they need to experience a concept in a way that makes it usable in their everyday life,” Namratha says.

That idea is influencing the direction she wants to take Minhance Wellness in the coming years.

Making psychology experiential

Namratha is interested in developing practical experiential tools and simulations around different mental health and emotional wellbeing concerns.

The objective is to make psychological concepts easier to understand and easier to apply.

Overthinking, for example, is something many people experience but may not fully understand.

Similarly, people may recognise that they are stressed without understanding how their patterns of thinking, behaviour and emotional responses contribute to that stress.

Experiential learning can potentially make these concepts more tangible.

Rather than simply telling someone what emotional regulation means, the approach would allow them to experience a process and practise it until it becomes easier to incorporate into everyday routines.

It is this movement from awareness to application that Namratha sees as an important part of the future of mental wellness.

The workplace is part of the solution

The workplace is another area where she believes the conversation needs to evolve.

Namratha conducts corporate workshops and programs focused on mental wellbeing, emotional resilience, mindfulness, employee wellbeing and leadership.

Her perspective is that employee mental wellness should not be separated from organisational performance.

People who are emotionally exhausted may struggle with concentration, communication, decision-making and relationships at work.

Likewise, leaders influence the psychological environment of their teams through the way they communicate, respond to pressure and handle conflict.

This makes mental wellness both a human concern and an organisational one.

Looking at the systems around people

Namratha’s work also extends into Family Constellation and Organisational Constellation.

These approaches explore systemic relationships and patterns within families and organisations.

For her, this adds another dimension to understanding wellbeing.

People do not live in isolation.

Family relationships, workplace dynamics, expectations, roles and patterns can all influence how individuals experience themselves and respond to situations.

Understanding those systems can therefore be an important part of understanding the individual.

A larger ambition for Minhance Wellness

Namratha’s professional journey has moved through entrepreneurship, Clinical Psychology, life and leadership coaching, corporate training and mental wellness.

But the long-term vision behind Minhance Wellness is becoming broader.

She wants mental wellness to reach more people and become more accessible, practical and normalised.

That could mean developing new experiential tools, expanding corporate mental wellness programs, working with leaders and organisations, and creating ways for individuals and families to engage with psychological wellbeing before they reach a crisis point.

Her ambition is not simply to create another wellness organisation.

It is to contribute to a cultural shift in how people think about mental wellbeing.

Physical health has long been considered something worth maintaining proactively.

Namratha believes mental wellbeing deserves the same attention.

The larger question, then, may no longer be whether people are willing to talk about mental health.

It may be whether society can move from talking about it to living with greater psychological awareness every day.

That is the space Minhance Wellness is seeking to occupy, and the direction Namratha sees for her work as a Leadership Psychologist.
